Monday morning burnout!!!
I love getting my heart rate up in the sauna for an intense sweat session. The feeling of walking out of the gym afterwards is indescribable. I know know! It’s a different form of cardio then juggling, but I don’t like the cold, so this is my alternative 🤷🏻♂️🤣.

Saturday shenanigans 😝
Was feeling goofy in between running my errands. One of the reasons I love this game so much, is because you can literally enjoy it anywhere!

It’s harder than it looks I promise 😅.
As I mentioned in the past, the benefits to using a smaller ball are almost endless. The surface area is way less, making your room for error much smaller. It’s a great practice to familiarize yourself with, for your overall touch will improve greatly. Get yourself one and tell me how many you can get! 👀 My record is 150 😝

Rest days:
As fantastic as it is to constantly stay active and workout, it’s vital for your body to recover and decompress every once and a while. Don’t be afraid to kick back and purposefully do nothing every once and a while. You deserve it!!

When I find myself indoors for a long period of time. The best feeling in the world is getting to the field on a hot day with nothing but time to grind. Listed below you’ll find my normal routine:
• Warmup stretches
• Toe touches on the ball
• Juggling drills
• Dribbling drills
• First touch practice
• Shooting drills.

We all knew it was coming.. Strength:
Despite what many people say about the sport, soccer is a physical game. I can’t tell you how many times especially as a keeper, I wished I was a bigger body for people to challenge. Whether it be in the air or a 1v1, having more strength and weight would have altered many people from attempting to make contact with me. Most importantly, I would have been much more comfortable challenging the ball, and wouldn’t have gotten hurt as much.

If you feel good, you’ll play good.
Keeping your body fully nourished and at a healthy state will make it so much easier to focus on what really matters: Coordination, ability and consistency.
Every player has their strengths and weaknesses in their gameplay, but if you can’t make it through the full 90 minute game, it becomes hard for a coach to truly analyze your value.
Eat clean, train properly, and the results will follow.

Just when I find myself struggling to juggle a normal ball, I break this little guy out to keep me on my toes.
The benefit to it is since surface area to juggle significantly shrinks, my touch has to be twice as precise.
The result- when I go back to a normal ball, it’s way easier than before. 10/10 recommended it for improving your touch.

People try to make the argument that weight training slows you down. Well If Ronaldo can have a Greek God’s physique and play at the highest level possible. I say I can do the same 😤

Speed:
You ever notice soccer players moving with unbelievable speed and coordination? Well I guarantee you they use this drill. The goal of this exercise is to familiarize your hips with the movement of reaching for the ball and pulling it to any desired direction.
We did this drill almost every week on my college team, it’s vital for if you plan on driving your hips with speed. Gradually increase the intervals of time you do this for, and I guarantee you’ll see results.

The benefits to juggling are almost endless, here’s a couple reasons I enjoy them so much:
• Improves your timing and body control.
• Improves your balance as a player.
• Boosts your ability to concentrate.
• Improves your first touch.
• Last but not least, it’s easily my favorite way to do cardio.
Count how many you can get in a row!

Passing and opening up the hips:
A great way to determine someone’s level of play is shown in how they pass and receive a ball. Defenders can sometimes be fast to put pressure on you. In return, you should always be ready to quickly receive, but distribute the ball as well.

Time moves forward whether you’re ready or not, but when I have a ball at my feet, it’s almost as if time revolves around me.
Wherever it is you achieve this feeling, keep pursuing it. You’ll thank yourself later.

To gain open dribbling lanes in a game, you must catch your opponent with an unexpected event. They call it the beautiful game for a reason.

keep it simple. As a keeper it was important my hand eye coordination was Impeccable (I’m rusty go easy on me). Kicking and throwing at a random wall was the perfect way for me to test my reaction time without the need of another teammate.
I did this a lot with a tennis ball as well. The mere movement and coordination of catching the ball does wonders. It’s easier to train your coordination than you think. See how many you can catch in a row!

The shirt says it all. Do what you love and do it to the best of your capabilities. Life is too short to take it for granted. If there’s something you want to pursue, chase it no matter what. I’ve been playing soccer for 17 years, and I feel alive every single time. #livestrong

One touch finishing:
Often times in a real game, the ball is not in a picture perfect scenario. The ball bounces often and sometimes you don’t have enough time to take a touch before the defender gets to it. In return, you need to learn the beautiful skill of one touch finishing.
Having one touch finishing in your arsenal will make you a lethal attacker. Simply set yourself up in the situation I presented, or even just toss it in front of you and try connecting while it’s in midair.

The art of getting around defenders:
Here is one of the many practices strikers perform in order to get past their defenders. Doing a quick move to make the defender hesitate is all it takes to make a difference. During my time playing college soccer, I observed this step over frequently.
Give it a shot!

Soccer is an extreme lower body sport. In order to increase power in striking and explosiveness, my solution has been hitting heavy squats.
Although you don’t need to perform heavy lifts to this degree, I deemed it necessary for the sake of building up the strength to kick 60 yards.
My coach always said if we couldn’t send a goal kick past half field, we couldn’t play.
If you wanna increase your power, I recommend hitting some heavy squats, recovering with lots of protein, then go out a day later to hit some long balls.
It worked for me!

Sunday Fun day!
The more you familiarize yourself with your touch, the easier the game becomes. The beauty in playing so often is everything becomes second nature. Try some juggling sessions for a week or even month straight, and I promise you’ll notice massive improvements.
Tell me how many you get!!

Don’t end up like my old roommate and teammate who pulled his hamstring and was out for the whole season.
The hamstrings play a key role in stabilising the knee joint, as well as maintaining hip and torso positioning. Especially in soccer it’s vital your hamstrings are loose, but strong.

The beauty of the baby ball.
A part of my high school and college soccer experience consisted of juggling tennis balls to perfect our touch. A ball of this size is perfect for working on making your touch more precise. If you can juggle this, you can juggle a normal ball even better. If you have a tennis ball or baby ball like this, I highly recommend testing your juggling abilities, then switching over to a normal ball to admire the improvement. The results can be astonishing.

Rest dayyyy:
Know your limits, and be proactive in healing your body. It’s arguably more important than the work you do previously. It’s like putting unleaded gas in a sports car. You need to fuel your body with the correct nutrients, and allow proper rest for your body to recover. Don’t be afraid to give yourself a break. You deserve it!

The Peroneal stretch:
This stretch single handledly ended my shin splints during pre season. This Kneeling Peroneal Stretch is a great way to loosen up the outside of your shins.
To perform this stretch: kneel on the ground with your toes turned in toward each other. Then lean back and relax your butt down onto your feet with your hands behind you on the ground to help support your weight and keep you balanced. I like doing 1 shin at a time to isolate the intensity. Give it a try!
